Travel

We are expecting some teams may choose to fly to the event. Although there is an airport at Norwich, the nearest airport with good flight connections is Stansted.

We recommend that if intending to travel via Stansted, teams arrange their own journey by rail from Stansted station to Norwich. From there it is possible to continue the journey by train to Cromer. The accommodation in Overstrand is approx. 2.5 miles from Cromer station. We can assist in arranging transport for the final leg of the journey but we will need to know your expected arrival time.

On the return journey we will provide transport to take teams from Sheringham Park to Sheringham station (a 5-minute drive), from where there is an hourly Sunday service to Norwich.

Sheringham park is about a 7.5 mile drive from the accommodation in Overstrand. Coach transport will be provided for the journeys between the two on Saturday and back to the event on Sunday morning, as well as from Sheringham Park to Sheringham Station on the Sunday.

Trophy return

Please can the current holders of the trophies ensure that they are brought to the event:

  • Water Technology Ireland Perpetual Cup (highest scoring country overall)
  • Ultrasport Junior Trophy (highest scoring country in the individual races)
  • Cranstoun Cup (highest scoring country in the relay races)
  • Judith Wingham platter (higher scoring overall between Ireland and Wales)

Please hand trophies over to the organiser on arrival at Sheringham Park on Saturday morning.

Sheringham Park

Sheringham Park is a 1,000 acre estate, incorporating landscaped parkland and woodland. The estate is managed by the National Trust, and is open to the public. Facilities include toilets and a cafe.

Competition terrain: Sheringham Park is the jewel in the crown of East Anglian forests. Venue for the JK and BOC in the past, it is a delightfully runnable forest with a wealth of contour detail. Given the time of year, there will be areas of bracken, and some brashings, but courses have been planned to avoid the worst of these. Very few brambles anywhere. The bulk of the forest is mature deciduous, with some working coniferous plantations in the western section that will be reached by the longer courses, and also an area of open pasture to the north.

Map: Map updated for the event by Phil Halford (SUFFOC) in spring and summer 2024. Map scale will be 1:10,000 with 5m contour interval. Course maps will be approx. A4 size (maybe slightly larger than A4) and will be printed on waterproof paper. Control descriptions will be symbolic for all courses, and will be printed on course maps. In addition, loose control descriptions will be available in the start grid for the individual races. Loose descriptions will not be provided for the relays.

A previous map of Sheringham can be viewed on Routegadget.
